There are so many different reasons to visit the great state of Florida. There is Disney World and Harry Potter world, to be sure; the two of them is reason enough for most everyone who has never been to Florida before. But, there are so many places to visit that might go under the radar. So many events and things to do that you might not have even considered how Florida and all of its attractions just might be your finest destination.
Wedding venues, outdoor activities, the best restaurants, and so much more await you and your family when you travel south to Florida. In 2016, there were over 112 million tourists who visited the state. Many of them did so because they knew that no matter where they went or where they stayed, they were never more than 60 miles from a beach. This is a huge selling point for many beach lovers, especially when it comes time for Spring Break.
Tourism has a huge impact on the economy of Florida. So many visitors come every year for a wide variety of reasons. Many people come down from the northern states during the winter months to escape the cold, ice, and snow. Brides and grooms looking for wedding venues during the winter months make their way to Florida to take advantage of the weather. Wedding venues in Maine in February are not as attractive as Florida for many people.
A number of people come to Florida every year for the horses. In Ocala, for example, there is one of only four thoroughbred centers in the world. There are 600 thoroughbred farms and have produced a number of great champions in the world of horseracing, including six Kentucky Derby winners.
Another great area of Florida is the town of McIntosh. There are 68 sites in the Historic District of McIntosh that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. When you go to McIntosh, you might think you have stepped back in time. It is a small Victorian town nestled just outside of Gainsville. Live oak trees shade this unique little town, giving you a one of a kind experience of old Florida living.
If you only have the chance to visit Florida one time, you might likely go the Disney World or Harry Potter route, and no one would blame you. Both of those places are magical, especially if you have never been before. But, there are so many more things to do in Florida than you might think.
Come when you can and stay as long as you like!
